Wax is a BHO post-extraction format with an opaque, soft, ear-wax-like texture (hence the name). Compared to shatter, wax is easier to handle with a dab tool — it scoops cleanly off the parchment without snapping. Wax is produced by agitating the BHO during the purge process, which whips air into the concentrate and clouds it from translucent to opaque. The texture is intermediate between hard shatter and the softer budder/badder textures. Wax dabs at 550–650°F similar to shatter. The flavor is essentially identical to shatter from the same base extract — the texture difference comes from post-extraction handling, not the underlying extract chemistry. Wax was the entry-level BHO format that introduced many consumers to dabbing in the early-to-mid 2010s. Today wax is less common in premium extracts but still dominant in the budget-tier vape/dab market because it's easy to handle and ships well.
