WHAT IS SAUCE
Terp sauce (sometimes called HTFSE — high-terpene full-spectrum extract) is the high-terpene fraction of a saturated cannabis extract. When premium live resin or live rosin is sealed in a jar at slightly elevated temperature for weeks, the cannabinoids slowly nucleate and crystallize into THCa diamonds. The terpenes don’t crystallize — they remain liquid and pool around the diamonds as the runny, oily, intensely aromatic sauce.
A pure sauce extract (separated from the diamonds) typically tests at 15–30% terpene content — among the highest of any concentrate format. Compare to standard live rosin’s 4–8% terpenes, distillate’s 0–1%, and traditional flower’s 1–3%.
The flavor experience is unlike anything else. A sauce dab is essentially pure cannabis terpene volatilization — the aromatic compounds that drove the strain’s character, concentrated and freed of the structural cannabinoid matrix.
DIAMONDS AND SAUCE FORMAT
Most consumers buy "diamonds and sauce" rather than pure sauce alone. The format combines the THCa diamonds and their accompanying terp sauce in a single jar. Each dab includes some crystals dipped in the surrounding sauce — peak cannabinoid potency from the diamonds, peak flavor intensity from the sauce.
The ratio varies by extract. A high-cannabinoid live rosin might separate into 60% diamonds + 40% sauce by weight. A high-terpene live rosin from a particularly aromatic strain might be 30% diamonds + 70% sauce.
Pure sauce (sauce-only, no diamonds) is rarer in the market because most producers prefer to sell the combined format. A few specialty producers separate the fractions and sell them individually for consumers who want maximum control.
HOW TO DAB SAUCE
Sauce is the runniest concentrate format. It flows freely at room temperature, runs off dab tools, and pools at the bottom of jars. Handling requires a flat-paddle or scoop dab tool and quick movements.
Refrigeration helps. Cold sauce is more viscous and easier to portion. Pull the jar from the fridge, let it sit 5–10 minutes (so it’s not so cold it shocks the warm banger), then dose.
Dab temperature: 540–560°F. The high terpene content rewards even more conservative low-temp protocols than standard rosin. Dabbing sauce too hot torches the volatile aromatic compounds that justified the premium pricing.
For diamonds-and-sauce format: scoop both diamond and sauce in the same dab. The diamond delivers the cannabinoid potency, the sauce delivers the flavor. Solo diamonds are flat-flavored; solo sauce is moderate-potency. Together they’re the complete concentrate experience.
