Live rosin is hash rosin pressed from fresh-frozen cannabis flower — meaning the plant was harvested and immediately flash-frozen rather than dried and cured. Freezing preserves the most volatile terpenes (α-pinene at boiling point 155°C, ocimene at 154°C) that would partially evaporate during traditional curing. The fresh-frozen flower is then ice-water extracted (producing "live hash"), freeze-dried, and rosin-pressed — producing "live rosin". Live rosin has a brighter, fresher aroma profile compared to cured rosin, particularly noticeable on strains where the volatile terps carry significant character (citrus sativas, terpinolene leads). Live rosin typically commands a 15–25% price premium over cured rosin. It's also less shelf-stable — terpenes degrade faster, so live rosin should be freezer-stored. Rosin Royale marks live presses with a LIVE badge on the jar and PDP; most Royal Reserve drops are live.
