A carb cap is a small cover (glass, ceramic, or quartz) placed over a quartz banger after the concentrate is dropped. It restricts airflow into the banger, lowering the vaporization pressure and temperature inside the chamber. This lets you fully vaporize a dab at lower temperatures (520–540°F instead of 600°F+), preserving terpenes that would burn off at high heat. Carb caps come in three main styles: bubble caps (round, simple, fits most bangers), directional caps (asymmetric airflow that spins the dab around the dish for even heating), and spinner caps (used with terp pearls — the airflow spins the pearls, agitating the puddle for full vaporization). Directional and spinner caps are favored by low-temp dabbers because they ensure no concentrate is left in the corners. Quality matters: cheap caps don't seal well, leaking air. Premium carb caps run $20–$60. Carb caps are essential equipment for proper rosin dabbing — without one, low-temp dabs leave residue in the banger.
