WHAT IS A DAB TORCH
A dab torch is a refillable butane chef’s torch used to heat quartz bangers for traditional dabbing. The flame is adjustable in size and intensity, and the torch can be locked-on for hands-free heating.
Dab torches are larger and more powerful than crème brûlée torches — they need to heat quartz to red-hot in 25–35 seconds. Premium dab torches (Blazer, Vector) use ultra-pure butane and have anti-flare-out flame stabilization.
Pricing: $30–$80 for quality torches. Budget torches under $20 produce inconsistent flames that complicate temperature timing.
TOP TORCH MODELS
Blazer Big Buddy — The industry standard. Large fuel reservoir (40g), long burn time, consistent flame, lock-on capability. $50–$60.
Vector Nitro — Premium alternative. Slightly larger flame, more polished aesthetic. $60–$80.
Blazer GT8000 — Budget Blazer. Smaller fuel reservoir (15g) but same flame quality. $30.
Vector Cyclone — Compact pocket-sized torch. Good for travel. $30–$40.
Errlectric Plasma Lighter — Electric (plasma arc) instead of butane. Indoor-safer, no fuel needed, but can’t heat bangers properly — use only as a flower lighter, not a dab torch.
BUTANE QUALITY
Use only premium-purity butane (5x or higher refined). Cheap butane contains impurities that can leave residue in the banger and affect flavor.
Recommended brands: Whip-It (most common, 5x refined), Vector (5x), Newport (4x — minimum acceptable). Avoid generic gas-station butane — it’s typically 1x or 2x refined.
Refill instructions: invert the torch, depress the refill valve with the butane can’s nozzle, hold for 5–10 seconds. Wait 60 seconds before lighting to let the cold butane warm to room temperature.
TORCH SAFETY
Never leave a lit torch unattended. The lock-on flame mode is for hands-free heating only — return to off-position immediately after the banger is heated.
Heat bangers in a stable, non-flammable area. Glass rig + torch is a fire hazard if the rig falls.
Store torches upright in a cool, dry location. Heat exposure can cause butane reservoirs to over-pressurize.
For indoor use, ensure good ventilation. Butane combustion produces minimal CO but enclosed spaces concentrate it.
