E-rigs (electronic rigs like the Puffco Peak Pro and Dr. Dabber Switch) and traditional torch-banger rigs both produce vaporized concentrate, but the experience and equipment philosophy differ substantially.
E-rigs win on convenience. Set the target temperature digitally, drop the dab, hit the button, inhale. No torch, no cool-down timing, no carb cap fumbling. The temperature precision means consistent dabs every time — no more "I waited too long, the banger's cold" or "I dabbed too soon, that was a hot dab" moments.
Traditional rigs win on vapor quality and connoisseur ritual. A glass rig with proper percolation produces cooler, smoother vapor than any e-rig's atomizer-and-mouthpiece system. The full ritual — heat the banger red-hot, watch it cool, drop the dab, cap it, swab it — is part of what makes dabbing feel intentional rather than automated. For experienced dabbers, this matters.
Cost analysis splits. E-rigs are higher-cost upfront ($200–$400) but have ongoing atomizer replacement costs ($30 every 2–4 months). Traditional rigs are similar upfront for the kit ($150–$500) but have minimal ongoing costs after the torch fuel runs out.
Portability heavily favors e-rigs. A Puffco Peak fits in a backpack and runs on battery. A glass rig setup requires the rig, a torch, a fuel canister, and the supporting tools — basically stationary.
