Isopropyl alcohol (IPA, "iso") is the standard cleaning solvent for cannabis equipment maintenance. 91% or 99% IPA dissolves cannabis oil residue and reclaim, allowing thorough cleaning of bangers, rigs, dab tools, and grinder catchers. The standard cleaning protocol: q-tip dipped in iso for after-dab banger swabs (while warm); deep-clean by submerging banger in iso for 10–30 minutes then rinsing. Salt is sometimes added to iso for mechanical scrubbing (the salt grains agitate residue mechanically, the iso dissolves it chemically). Important safety note: iso is flammable. Never clean a banger that's still hot enough to ignite alcohol vapor. Let bangers cool fully before iso contact. Iso also degrades silicone — silicone rigs and accessories should be washed with mild soap and water, not iso. The 99% grade is preferred over 70%/91% because the higher concentration evaporates faster (no residual water on the glass) and dissolves residue more aggressively. Bulk 99% iso is available at hardware stores ($4–$8/quart). Storage: dark amber bottle, away from open flames.
