THE MELT SCALE, BRIEFLY
The 1-6 star melt scale is a connoisseur grading system for hash rosin quality based on how cleanly the product vaporizes when dabbed. Higher star = cleaner dab = less residue = purer trichome content in the source hash.
It’s an empirical visual test: dab the rosin at low temperature, watch what’s left in the banger. Pure trichome heads vaporize fully. Plant matter, contaminants, and immature trichomes leave residue. The grade reflects what’s actually in the rosin, not just how nice it looks in the jar.
THE SIX TIERS
1-star (trim grade): Significant residue, grainy texture, often greenish tint. Source hash includes substantial leaf matter. Common in budget-tier rosin.
2-star: Partial melt with visible reclaim puddle. Plant contaminants present but reduced.
3-star: Mid-grade. Mostly melts with minor residue. Source hash from average bubble bag wash.
4-star: Quality melt with light residue. Source hash from well-washed flower with selective screen filtration.
5-star (full melt): Full vaporization with minimal residue. Pure trichome head fraction. Connoisseur-tier hash.
6-star (perfect melt): Full vaporization with zero residue. Banger looks clean after the dab. Rare and expensive — represents the absolute pinnacle of solventless hash production.
HOW 6-STAR HAPPENS
Six-star hash rosin requires perfect upstream conditions: pristine fresh-frozen flower with high trichome density, careful ice-water hash washing, selective screen filtration (typically 73-90 micron), proper freeze drying, and gentle low-temperature pressing.
Each step has failure modes that reduce the star rating. Over-agitation during washing tears the trichome heads, leaving plant matter contamination. Under-screening passes immature trichomes that don’t fully vaporize. Over-temperature pressing damages the cannabinoids and terpenes. Six-star happens when all steps execute correctly.
Yield is the trade-off. Six-star hash represents only a fraction of total trichomes from a pound of flower — typically 0.5-1.5% by weight. The rest of the trichomes come out at 4-5 star quality through a wider micron range.
HOW TO TEST MELT YOURSELF
Heat your quartz banger to 540°F low-temp. Drop a small portion of rosin (rice grain size). Cap with directional or spinner cap. Inhale slowly until the puddle visibly disappears.
Inspect the banger. A 6-star dab leaves no visible residue — the banger looks like it did before the dab. A 5-star dab leaves a barely-visible film that q-tip swabs in one pass. A 3-4 star dab leaves a noticeable reclaim puddle. A 1-2 star dab leaves significant carbonized residue that requires deep cleaning.
Q-tip the banger immediately while warm. Whatever residue is there gets harder to remove once cooled. The amount of color on the q-tip after one pass is your real-world melt rating.
WHY ROSIN ROYALE PRESSES 5-6 STAR ONLY
Premium pricing requires premium quality. Every Rosin Royale rosin batch is graded against the 6-star scale before commercial release. Anything testing below 5-star gets reworked or sold at lower-tier pricing.
Royal Reserve drops are 6-star exclusively. Standard catalog presses are 5-star or higher. The grading is done in-house by the press operator and verified by sample dabs from each batch.
